The teacher will be responsible for teaching in an interdisciplinary, inquiry based model. Strong collaboration skills will be essential to unpack the learning standards and work with colleagues across disciplines to create projects which allow for self-directed learning within the parameters of a set of common outcomes. The teacher must be able to create inquiry/project based learning experiences that explore big ideas and concepts allowing students to thrive within an environment of complex knowledge construction as opposed to simple information assignments. Classrooms will be transformed into networked and global learning centres where digitally literate citizens flourish and technology is seen as a seamless tool to learning as opposed to an adjunct experience. Students will be expected to demonstrate learning in authentic ways beyond the four walls of a classroom and teachers will facilitate this as an integral part of the assessment cycle. Classrooms will be a nerve centre where 21st century skills and cross curricular competencies are not isolated in the learning experience but an essential component of it. Social innovation will be seen as an expectation of creating globally responsible citizens who have a strong level of self-awareness within the context of the world at large. This position is designed for a forward thinking, collaborative educator who thrives in a team environment and is willing to continue to operate on the leading edge of education and adjust practice accordingly.
