Exempt Employee Benefits

All school administrators, operations management and senior management are eligible for benefits the first day of the month following the start of their contract.

The School District offers a competitive flex benefits plan allowing you the flexibility to select your coverage levels dependent upon your needs.

The extended health plan and dental plan is designed to help promote health and wellness for you, your spouse/partner and your dependent children.  Coverage is through Pacific Blue Cross.

Refer to your Benefit Booklet (PDF) for detailed information about coverage and coverage levels.

Changes to Your Coverage

To add/remove a dependent or change coverage to your extended health, dental or MSP, please complete and submit the appropriate form:

Submitting a Claim

You will need to submit an Extended Health Claim to Pacific Blue Cross to receive your reimbursement. It’s always a good idea to keep original receipts and copies of your completed claim forms.  Most dentists bill Pacific Blue Cross directly.  Check with your dentist prior to receiving any treatments.

Coordination of Benefits

People who are covered under more than one extended health or dental plan are required to submit their claims to their own plan first. Any remaining balance may be claimed through the spouse's plan.

Dependent Children Claims

For dependent children, the plan that pays first is determined by the birth date of the parents, as follows:

  • If your birth date is prior to your spouse's in the calendar year, your plan is the first payer and your children's expenses must be claimed through your own plan first.
  • If your spouse's birth date is prior to yours in the calendar year, then your spouse's plan is the first payer for your dependent children.

Medical Services Plan (MSP) covers basic medical expenses such as doctor visits, x-rays and hospital treatments.  All BC residents are required to be enrolled with MSP.

To make changes to your MSP coverage, complete one of the following forms:

It is possible that you or your dependents may require emergency medical treatment while travelling outside your province of residence.

In such a case, the Medical Services Plan of B.C. would cover a portion of the cost and, generally speaking, the extended health benefits plan would pay for all or a portion of the cost of out-of province emergency eligible medical expenses only.  Expenses incurred while out of country or out of province must be paid for by you first and then submitted for reimbursement upon your return.  We do not discourage people from purchasing additional emergency medical insurance while travelling.

Refer to your Benefit Booklet (PDF) for detailed information about coverage and coverage levels.

Medi-Assist

Pacific Blue Cross, through Medi-Assist, provides assistance to members and their dependents who experience emergencies while traveling outside of their province of residence.

Visit the Medi-Assist Website for more information.
